Label printers (Brother P-touch)
- Connect over USB through the system's own USB printer driver, with no driver change, in the desktop app on Windows and Linux.
- It reaches a P-touch held by Brother's Windows driver through Windows' usbprint, or by Linux's usblp.
- It reads the loaded tape and any problem, and sets the label to the loaded tape.
- It follows each label as it prints: printing, cooling down, printed, or the printer's error.
- On Linux, your user needs to be in the
lpgroup.
- Test printing now has four buttons:
- Read printer status (new). It prints nothing.
- Print over the USB driver (with progress) (new).
- Installed printer, raw data.
- Installed printer, driver. On Windows it now prints on the driver's own paper size for the tape.
Stickers
- Border: goes from −3 to 10 mm in 0.1 mm steps. A negative border cuts inside the artwork, so there's no white edge.
- Die cut:
- new Cut length and Bridge settings
- the default bridge is now 0.5 mm, so stickers stay in the sheet
- outlines are cut top to bottom in stretches
- a warning about cutting into the strip
- Design card: an always-visible Cut group holds Cut shape, Border and Cut style. Image and Outline fine-tuning fold away.
- Right panel: Cutting, Alignment and Export fold away and start closed. Print stays open.
- Paper:
- The paper code the printer reports is the size the last job asked for, not what's in the tray.
- The "Unknown paper (possibly clear sticker sheet)" guess and the wrong-paper warning are gone.
- The printer still stops with an alert if the wrong paper is loaded.
Fixed
- Save did nothing in the desktop app on a new project. It now asks for the name in its own dialog.

Test printing (Printers → Label printer → Test printing): one button per way of printing, each printing a small test label:
- Direct USB
- Installed printer, raw data: OSM Studio's own printer data passed through the installed printer (e.g. Brother PT-P900W) untouched. There's no driver change, and it's the one to try first on Windows with Brother's driver installed.
- Installed printer, driver: the label as an image, printed by the printer's driver without a dialog.
- Wi-Fi
- Print dialog
- Save raw file
Each result is listed and goes into Copy report.
-
Label printer model: the label printer card no longer names a model you may not have, and Check printers sets the model to the one it finds plugged in.
-
MCP:
tape_test_print.

- Check printers (in Printers). It also runs by itself when Connect over USB finds nothing.
- Lists every sticker and Brother printer plugged in, and explains what's in the way, with the fix:
- Windows' printer driver holding a P-touch
- no WinUSB driver
- no permission, or the
usblpdriver, on Linux - an unsupported model
- a Wi-Fi printer that doesn't answer
- The desktop app also reads the system's own device list and its installed printers.
- Copy report gives a text version to send.
- Lists every sticker and Brother printer plugged in, and explains what's in the way, with the fix:
- Label printer detection: label printers are recognised by USB id or by the model name they report, and their USB channels are read from the printer.
- Test connection for the Wi-Fi printer address (desktop app).
- One Printers button (top right) for connecting and managing all printers.
- Several sticker printers at once:
- Rename them and pick a default.
- Print all can share the sheets between them, printing in parallel with each printer's own pressures.
- Next sheet loaded button between sheets.
- Demo printers removed.
- MCP:
check_printers,list_printers,select_printer,rename_printer,disconnect_printer;printtakesprinterandshare.
PT-P900W on Windows: if Check printers says Windows' printer driver is using it, use Print with system dialog or Wi-Fi printing, or switch it to WinUSB for direct USB. See Tape labels.
